How to Choose A High Ranking Domain Name for SEO

An SEO Domain or ranking domain is a domain name that has been chosen and registered specifically to rank high on the search engines. It will contain the main theme keywords in your domain. For example if Mens Health is the main theme of your site your SEO Domain would be MensHealth.com. SEO meaning, Search Engine Optimized - SEO Domain a search engine optimized domain.

What is an SEO Domain?

There are three aspects to choosing and registering an SEO Domain.

  1. The name of the domain itself
  2. The top level domain name ending ie: .com, .net, .org, .info, .biz, .ws
  3. The quality of the service your reister your domain name with

Examples of SEO Domain Names

 

Examples of SEO Domains include www.makeyourownwebsiteeasy.com if Make Your Own Website Easy was the keyword you wanted to rank on. Similarly www.menshealthworld.net is an SEO Domain for broad industry keywords on Men’s Health. You want to try to register your keyword rich domain name with a .com, .net or .org first.

 

This is because these domain endings are considered more reputable and serious websites. .info and .biz would be next. The .ws is gaining popularity but if you want to do a search on Google, ask how many .ws websites do you see there? It is rate that top ranking sites will be anything other than .com, .net or .org.

 

If you have a number of products and main theme keywords you want to rank high on search engines with, then there is an arguement for creating many sites each with their own search engine optimized domain name. This is easy and doesn't cost anything more than the name of the domain registration if you are using The Simple New Web System. Otherwise it could get a bit expensive.

 

If you are a business or selling a product and you have your domain name registered in the name of the product/company but it is not the keyword or words of the target market, then you should consider registering a domain name that is SEO or search engine optimized to target that market.

 

An example of this would be if your company is called Marketing Plus but you want to sell a service that is about marketing big events, consider registering an SEO Domain called marketingbigevents.com and link that site over to your company site.
